MISSOURI BOWHUNT

I just got back from a great hunt in Brookfield, Missouri. I actually saw tons of deer, but did not bring anything home, YET!

The first evening we set up on a soy bean field and saw 15 to 20 deer including a nice 9 point that was a borderline shooter. I did not get a shot opportunity, but I remember thinking, “Man, this is going to be a great hunt.” The next few days we had several encounters with does, smaller bucks, and a few coyotes (which I almost got a shot at one of them).

On the second to last day, we set up beside a standing corn field. We hunted that morning and again saw several deer. We had a nice 8 point come right down a mowed path between the standing corn and a tree line that was bordered by CRP (I love hunting neer CRP!). He actually jumped the fence about 15 yards away, but I decided to pass. That evening seemed to be a little slower, however, about 30 minutes before dark, a shooter buck came out of the corn about 150 yards away. He actually started working some scrapes along the treeline, which came right by our set up. He ended up getting close, but things just did not work out. He would of scored around 135″ to 140″. A definite shooter in my book.

The last day ended with lots of deer sightings, but no shooters. I was so impressed with the number of deer we saw, especially for that time of the year. This is actually a place that anyone can hunt. It is not an outfitter, but a hunting club. You can reserve your week and hunt Missouri and/or Illinois. There are a number of preset Ol’Man ladderstands (which I hung myself in Missouri). You can stay in the old trailer house for free or there are several hotels in Brookfield that are very comfortable (Brookfield is only a couple mile away from the farm). The farm is about 1,200 acres and has crops, creeks, big timber, and CRP. You can call Bart Crawford @ 850-516-2943 or you can call the owner of the farm, John Roe (super nice guy, his phone # is 660 258 5629) for more details. Bart and John have a passion for the outdoors, and they will work hard to give you a great outdoor experience.

The Missouri farm has a lot of big buck history, including several Missouri state records (that were taken over the years past). I am planning on going back later this year and base upon the sheds John showed me, there are some bruisers running around that country. Thanks John, Bart, & Lester for a great week! I look forward to coming back in a few weeks.
